Brazil World Cup 2014: Tickets Go On Sale

Tickets for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil went on sale on Tuesday, with fans able to apply on Fifa's website.
Fifa is expecting a similar demand to Germany 2006, when there were about seven applicants for every ticket of the 64-match tournament.
Around 3.3 million tickets will be available for the tournament.
Tickets will range in price from £58 (US $90) for first-round matches to £632 ($990) for the final at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazilian citizens over 60, local students and members of some social programs can purchase tickets for £15 ($23).
"It's always difficult to predict," said Fifa marketing director Thierry Weil. "But I truly believe that it will be more toward to what happened in Germany than in South Africa in 2010."
According to Fifa, the 2006 World Cup was attended by more than 3.3 million fans. Almost two million tickets were sold to the general public in South Africa, although the number of applications during the first ticketing phase was significantly lower.
All applications made before 10 October 2013 will enter a random selection draw if there are not enough tickets available to fulfil all requests.
The sales of the leftover tickets will begin on 5 November on a first-come, first-served basis. Another phase will begin on 8 December after the draw is made.

Tottenham Face Losing Willian Transfer Race To Chelsea After Roman Abramovich Gets Personally Involved

Roman Abramovich has personally launched a stunning bid to derail Tottenham’s plans for replacing Gareth Bale.
Billionaire Chelsea owner Abramovich phoned fellow Russian oligarch Suleyman Kerimov, owner of Anzhi Makhachkala, to offer him £32million for Spurs target Willian.
The Brazilian, expected to sign for Spurs on Thursday after he passed his medical, instead held talks with the west Londoners instead.
Tottenham had been hoping to complete the double signing of the Brazillian and Argentine winger Erik Lamela to clear the way for the sale of Gareth Bale, which is still imminent.
Real Madrid’s website has jumped the gun by starting to sell No.11 shirts with the Welshman’s name on the back.
The White Hart Lane club had been set to smash their own club transfer record for the third time this summer with the £30m capture of Willian.
But Chelsea’s late interest in the Anzhi playmaker could wreck their plans to re-invest the Bale transfer money.

Done Deal ? Bale Shirts Available On Real Website Before Official Announcement

Andre Villas-Boas refused to comment on speculation regarding Gareth Bale's future - but Real Madrid already appear to think they have got their man.
On the ‘Official Real Madrid Store’ webpage, Tottenham winger Gareth Bale is clearly listed as No 11 on the La Liga giants' squad list between Mesut Ozil and Marcelo and his new replica shirt is available for purchase.
Shortly after the screen grabs were taken, the site was down for maintenance
Real had kept No 11 free when they announced their squad numbers in pre-season and are desperate to land Bale and hand him the shirt.
The Welshman has been linked with a move to the Spanish capital all summer after some scintillating performances for Spurs last season.
Real have made no secret of their desire to sign Bale this summer and Tottenham technical director Franco Baldini flew to Madrid on Wednesday to finalise Bale's world record £94million transfer to Los Blancos.

John Cena comments on recovery from triceps surgery

One night after losing the WWE Championship in a grueling match to Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam, John Cena confirmed what many in the WWE Universe had quietly begun to expect: That the swollen, distended elbow he had sported for the past two weeks was a sign of a larger problem – in this case, a torn triceps – and that addressing said problem would come at a cost.
“I cannot put off my surgery any longer,” Cena said on Monday, “and tonight I leave WWE.”
With the Cenation leader fresh out of that surgery and facing a four-to-six month timetable before he sees ring action again, WWE.com caught up with the 13-time World Champion to get his opinion on what the next half-year holds for him.
“I plan on using the next couple months to rehab and get healthy as I can, as quickly as I can,” said Cena. “My goal is to return to WWE healthy and strong, and since my expected time away is only six months, this shouldn’t affect WrestleMania.”
No stranger to serious injuries (including a torn pectoral muscle in 2007 and bone chips in his elbow in 2012), Cena’s hard work and fast recovery time from previous ailments give the WWE Universe reason to hope they’ll see him back sooner rather than later. Regardless, acknowledging the possibility of an extended stay on the sidelines, Cena offered veteran words of encouragement for the fans he temporarily leaves behind.

Anelka walks out of West Brom training.

Nicolas Anelka may have kicked his last football as a professional after walking out on West Bromwich Albion. The former France international is considering his future in the game after a tragedy in his personal life which led to dramatic scenes at the club's training ground. Officially, Anelka has been granted compassionate leave for an indefinite period after his agent, Eric Manasse, died earlier this week. But it is understood that the ex-Chelsea and Liverpool forward, now 34, cleared out his locker, taking his boots with him before informing the club of his decision to call it a day. According to sources within the club, Anelka had been considering his position some 48 hours before communicating it to his employers. It seems that Manasse's death hit the player hard and, after collecting his personal effects, he went to see West Brom's sporting and technical supremo, Richard Garlick. He told the club's director that he no longer wanted to play football and was quitting the game.West Brom issued a statement confirming that Anelka would not be part of the squad for the trip to Goodison Park tomorrow.

Usain Bolt seals place in World Championship history

Usain Bolt guided Jamaica to victory in the sprint relay in Moscow to become the most successful athlete in the history of the World Championships.
The 26-year-old added 4x100m gold to his 100m and 200m triumphs and now has a total of eight golds and two silvers.
Americans Carl Lewis and Allyson Felix also have 10 medals each - eight golds, one silver and one bronze.
Jamaica won in 37.36 seconds with the United States second and Canada third after Great Britain were disqualified..
However, the women's relay team were later promoted to the bronze-medal position after France were disqualified for a similar infringement.
Bolt's latest triumph meant he joined Americans Michael Johnson, Felix and Lewis on a record-equalling eight world titles overall.
The 100m and 200m world record holder also secured a sprint triple in World Championships for the second time, matching the trebles he completed at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.
"It is just great," Bolt said of the comparison. "I'll continue dominating. I'll continue to work hard. For me, my aim is to continue into the greatness thing."
The United States team gave the Jamaicans a scare but Rakieem Salaam's handover to Justin Gatlin left the individual 100m runner-up off balance.
