Usain Bolt: Rested And Ready For Zurich 100m In Diamond League
Usain Bolt says he is rested and ready to run another fast time when he takes on the likes of Britain's Adam Gemili over 100m at Thursday's Diamond League meeting in Zurich.
The Jamaican won triple gold at the World Championships earlier this month, clocking 9.77 seconds to win the 100m."I have got a lot of rest," said Bolt, who believes he can run below 9.80secs at the Letzigrund Stadium.
"This track is always a fast track and I've run some fast times here."
Bolt, who ran 19.66secs to win the 200m at the same meeting a year ago, will also face American Justin Gatlin and fellow Jamaican Nesta Carter on Friday. They won silver and bronze respectively at the World Championships in Moscow.
Bolt held his pre-race news conference at the headquarters of Fifa, the body that governs world football.
He was greeted on arrival by Fifa president Sepp Blatter and later accepted a blue Fifa football shirt bearing his name.
Bohdan Bondarenko is also targeting a big performance in Zurich when he competes in the high jump.
The Ukrainian, who won gold at the World Championships in Moscow, is edging closer to the world record height of 2.45m, set by Cuba's Javier Sotomayor in 1993.
"My goal is the world record," said Bondarenko. "The thing is, at this height, there are many different kinds of emotions that interfere with your concentration. This makes an attempt at the record mentally difficult."
Perhaps the biggest contest of the night will be the women's 5,000m.
Ethiopian rivals Meseret Defar and Tirunesh Dibaba rarely race each other outside of major championships, but the winners of the past three Olympic titles will clash over the distance in Zurich.
"The 5,000m will be a nice race, but it's my fourth race in two weeks so I'm a bit tired," said Defar. "I expect a tactical race because there are too many good runners in the field."
Other world champions on show include American LaShawn Merritt (400m), American David Oliver (110m hurdles) and Kenyan duo Asbel Kiprop (1500m) and Ezekiel Kemboi (3000m steeplechase).
